In purple cloth quarter binding with blue paper boards, gilt silver lettering on front board and spine. Jacket spine is yellow with purple and black lettering. Jacket is wrapped in a protective mylar sleeve. Moderate shelf wear visible on jacket faces, with some scuffing along the rear joint and fore edge of jacket back. Mild soiling near the top edge of jacket front. Jacket spine is lightly sunned. Small, closed tears are visible at the top edge of jacket back and bottom edge of jacket front. Price unclipped: "$4.95". Boards show light rubbing wear and small bumps to top and bottom board edges. Sunning to cloth at the head and tail of the spine. Text block shows very light foxing on top edge near spine. Includes a card with a handwritten note in blue ink from the author: "May 15 / Dear Mr. Tidum- / Thank you indeed for your kind note; I'm glad you liked Couples, and your description of it matches what I had intended before I began. / Best wishes, John Updike".
