The August, 1904 issue of the Rose Valley periodical, with polemics by Will Price, Horace Traubel, and Hawley McLanahan, providing historical and theoretical underpinnings of the American Arts and Crafts movement. Inspired by William Morris and T.J. Cobden-Sanderson, Price and his followers set up a utopian community of crafters in an abandoned mill near Philadelphia, called Rose Valley. There they set up a furniture shop, a printing press, and a pottery studio. All three were devoted to advancing the philosophy of the crafts movement, as well as its products.
