New York, 1977. Very Good. New York: 1977. Two-page typed letter signed by Tom Wolfe to "Marianne," a member of the editorial staff of the Village Voice, recommending the work of an "unusual and talented new writer" from the Bronx named Perquida Williams. Wolfe comments, "Hers is a new sort of voice, I think, rising from out of a new chapter in this city's history... her poems are a fascinating compression of two forms: they combine the story or vignette on the one hand and the unexpected imagery and leaps of logic of poetry on the other..." Wolfe continues to tell her story and to quote from a letter from her explaining her situation and dreams of writing.

Included is a carbon copy of Village Voice editor and and poet Joel Oppenheimer's one-page response, which notes her poems as interesting and promising but says the best of the lot is too long for the space the Voice provides for poetry. He concludes by encouraging her to continue to write and to write to him, offering continued guidance.

Light wear and creasing to edges; corrections by Wolfe to first letter; carbon copy toned; overall Very Good with interesting New York-related content.  .
