Inscribed and signed on front free endpaper, "Inscribed for my friend Albert Bender. Affectionately, Robinson Jeffers, Tor House, Carmel, California, December, 1937" accompanied by a quote from the poem "The Beaks of Eagles." With Bender's ex libris and ownership signature to front pastedown, as well as his inscription, "Passed on to my friend, Elmer Rice, with all good wishes. Albert M. Bender. 1938."

An excellent association copy inscribed to one of the major patrons of the California arts scene. Bender was especially active in promoting the early careers of Ansel Adams and Diego Rivera. This copy is in turn inscribed to Elmer Rice, the Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright.
