Connecticut, 1923. Poor. Binding defective. Toning, short tears, dust soiling, the occasional stain or spot. Loose leaves and clippings.. A collection of newspaper clippings pasted into a scrap book, with dates ranging from c.1855 to c.1923, compiled by an unnamed individual in Connecticut. The album appears to exclusively contain obituaries, marriage announcements, and life sketches of notable Americans (and/or perhaps some relatives and friends). A few surnames recur (Beal, Clark, Coe, Hotchkiss, and others), providing a small window into the compiler's social circles. Includes the occasional local interest story (e.g. a morbid clipping about a lightning strike in Trumbull that killed a husband, wife, and child). Other incidental ephemera loosely enclosed in the scrap book include a couple letters handwritten from a child to mother in 1912; a magazine clipping with a poem from 1918 memorializing those fallen in WWI; handwritten transcriptions of poetry on scrap paper. Includes brief ink annotations throughout the clippings (mostly dates). Includes a lengthy clipping on the importance of maintaining burial grounds in Connecticut. Single vol. (10" by 7.75"), approx. 200 pages, nearly all filled with newspaper clippings, ephemera and further clippings loosely inserted, in original blue cloth scrap book binding stamped in gold and blind.
