Collection of Civil War stories for late primary-school readers, all relating real-life deeds of valor performed by American boys, including "Gallant John" Pelham, Randolph Fairfax, Samuel Taylor, etc. Includes some photographic portraits (halftones) in text. Most of the accounts are written from the Southern perspective; Watson, born in Kentucky, spent her post-bellum married life in Memphis, Tennessee, where she founded The Nineteenth Century Club, the largest woman's club in the South; she was also active in the southern suffrage movement. Quite uncommon, with very few copies traced in commerce and scattered institutional holdings (most in circulating collections). Superb copy of a scarce Civil War juvenile.
