London: The Aviation Book Club, 1939. First Thus. Octavo. 20cm. Publisher's dark red cloth titled in black to spine. Dutjacket. 303pp.; [1]. Light bumping and scuffing to spine ends and corners, bright and strong; internally clean, illustrated throughout with full page photographic plates, laid in at the front is a newspaper clipping of Batten receiving an award for her flight, attached to a card with her signature in black ink; in a clean dustjacket with some shallow chipping and creasing to the edges, loss at the head of spine, and a small hole to the lower part of the toned spine panel. A very good, solid copy with some cosmetic wear.
An Aviation Book Club printing immediately following the Harrap first edition, and not for sale to the general public. Commemorating the incredible record breaking flight from the UK to New Zealand, not only the first time the attempt had been made by a woman, but the first time any flier had managed to achieve solo. From the library of Nathaniel Tarn, noted poet, translator, and military aviation enthusiast, with his bookplate.
