Philadelphia: John C. Winston Company. Very Good+. [n.d.]. "Special Edition". Hardcover. (pictorial cloth; no dust jacket) [an attractive copy, with minor bumping at a couple of corners, light soiling to rear cover, a couple of tiny ink smudges on front endpaper]. (B&W/colored drawings) An attractive copy of this "special edition" (undated on the book itself, but apparently published in the late 1920s or early 1930s) of the German tales, which in more modern times has served as the basis for a rather outrageous stage presentation entitled "Shockheaded Peter." [Another bookseller has pointed out that only the first 23 pages of this volume are devoted to the original Hoffman stories and illustrations, with the remaining 67 pages (90 pages in all) containing imitative stories and verse; to the untrained eye (mine), there appears to be little difference.] .
