Richmond, VA: Clyde W. Saunders, Printer, 1903. Original Tied Wrappers. Very Good binding. 9 1/2” x 6” 32pp softcover booklet produced by the Real Estate Trust Co., protesting to the proposed expansion of the post office building at its former location on Main Street. ~~In 1903, the proposed expansion of the post office in Richmond garnered outrage by local citizens and businessmen. Led by Charles B. Cooke, the Real Estate Trust Company petitioned business leaders and proposed an amendment to Congressman John Lamb. They also created this booklet in which copies of dozens of articles about the topic from local newspapers are derisively annotated by the authors. A January 16, 1903 article by the Richmond News Leader is extensively underlined next to the words, “Who was Right”. An introduction and epilogue bookend the clippings and a copy of the petition. ~~A most uncommon volume of early 20th century Richmond history; as of August 18, 2025 we find no institutional holdings, nor any copies in commerce.~~Very good. Very Good binding.
