This striking map by James Wyld covers the Italian peninsula, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, as well as the Ischia, the Dalmatian Coast, and the French Riviera. Notes the political divisions as laid out in the Treaty of Paris, 1815. Regional divisions are showing by hand-colored outline, an important cities, towns, rivers, roads, coastal and topographical features are labeled. This map was published in the 1840 edition of Wyld's "A New General Atlas of Modern Geography." In very good condition, with minor offsetting, some splitting to original centerfold at ends. Several small closed tears to right margin, and archival repair to tear on lower margin - not affecting the image.

James Wyld Senior (1790-1836) was a distinguished British mapmaker known for producing maps and globes. He served as Geographer to George IV and William IV. He was a founding member of the Royal Geographical Society and introduced lithography techniques to his production. His son James Wyld Junior (1812-1887) was the official geographer to Queen Victoria. This lovely map of is a fine example of his work.
