New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1893. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. This interesting book was issued as part of the publisher's Illustrated Library of Travel. Wiilliams writes in his reviser's note that he aimed to revise this little volume leaving untouched, so far as possible, Bacon's compilation, omitting only such portions as were inaccurate or obsolete, and addingrather sparingly from the narratives of a few recent travellers. The book starts with a chapter on early intercourse with Siam, followed by its geography, history, modern Siam, and descriptions of various cities and areas, Siamese life and customs, and ending with a chapter titled Bangkok and the New Siam. There are 25 black and white illustrations of everything from Siamese women, elephants in a Park at Ayuthia, to monkeys playing with a crocodile. Bound in brown cloth with gilt titling to spine. Cloth has a few light stains and signs of handling. Endpapers and text pages are clean and bright. In very good condition. Measures 7.5 x 5.25 inches. 296 pages. ASIANHIST/082925.
