The subtitle describes this book as "a full and authentic account of a recent journey with a caravan from Bombay to Constantinople, comprising a description of the country, the people, and interesting adventures with the natives." The preface states that the author traveled in the company of an atachée of the French Government together with escorts of natives selected from place to place. He constinues to state that the descriptions and accounts of amusing and adventurous incidents are entirely from his personal observations and experiences. The fifteen illustrations are from original pencil drawings that he sketched upon the spot. In a beautiful blue cloth binding with ornate gilt titling and figures on the front cover and gilt titling to spine. Corners are bumped, some light white marks on rear cover, and spine edges frayed. Some wear to edges of covers. The first front signature is cracked, as is the rear hinge, but text block is firm. There is a closed tear to last page of table of contents. The name "Bamford" is stamped on the free front endpaper. Offsetting to rear endpapers and to last page of text. Light spotting to title page. Still a handsome book in very good condition. Measures 5.5 x 8 inches. 634 pages.
