A bright, very sharp copy of this early American re-issue of the legendary 1845 German cautionary children's book "Slovenly Peter". This, the "twenty-third edition of the celebrated German work of Dr. Henry Hoffman", has held up beautifully and is in superb condition. Crisp and tight in its split pea-green cloth, with lovely gilt-titling and devices along the front panel and spine. Small, neat former owner name, address (Colorado Springs) and date (1914) at the front free endpaper, otherwise clean as could be internally. Quarto, wonderful hand-colored illustrations by the author himself (demonstrating what happens to naughty children) throughout.
