Bound I original publisher’s printed wrappers, with title and author cited, and a list of books offered for sale by the publisher; some dusting to the wrappers, spine reinforced very sympathetically, otherwise a very good copy.
First edition. Verri published a more substantial and scientific work in 1803 under the title, Saggi di Agricoltura pratica sulla coltivazioni dell Viti. . .This work differs in that it was written for young farmers cultivating vines and learning the new methods of cultivation. It is organized in four parts; I: Wine growing Lombardy. II: Why Chemistry is important to agriculture; III: How to apply the sciences to agriculture, with specific reference to viticulture; IV: The characteristics of fine wine and methods to cultivate and make wine of superior quality.
Carlo Verri was the younger brother of the illustrious enlightenment writers, Pietro and Alessandro Verry. During the French occupation he was appointed to various official posts in Milan and after the restoration he left public life and dedicated himself to the study of agriculture and creating new methods to increase production and protect crops from pests
