Two works in one volume in 8vo. 197 x 140 mm., 7/34 x 5 ½ inches]. xi, [1] , 48 pp.; 55 pp.  First work illustrated with two copperplates depicting adult locusts and locust eggs before hatching.  Bound in contemporary semi-rigid parchment with manuscript title on the spine; bindings showing some minor wear and discoloration; some minor browning to the paper stock of the text.  Title-pages printed in red and black.  The name Luigi Rossi Romano written in 18th century hand appears on the front free endpaper.
Two curiously related works on the locust infestation in Pisa in 1716.  The first work, more scientific in nature than the second, described the spread of locust in Tuscany, specifically focusing on the Maremme di Pisa, Siena, Volterra and all of the territory in the Campagna di Piombino, including Scarlino and Suvvereto.  There are chapters on physical characteristics of the locust, its development from eggs to insect, the reasons for the infestation, its destructive nature, the impact on local crops, and the attempts by local farmers to combat the damage caused by the locust.
The second work published one year after the first is more mystical in nature.  It is a report of the devotions and works of piety performed in the year 1716 by local farmers to obtain God’s help in driving away the locusts that infested the Maremma of Pisa, Siena, and Volterra.  The report states that the infestation was punishment from God and it outlines previous punishments sent by God to chasten mankind as described in the bible.  It states that the principle way of combatting the infestation was through prayer and penance.  It suggests that the intercession of the Saints is often a method of stopping the punishment and provides examples of what the people of Pisa and Siena did in order to prove to God their contribution.
ICCU (Italian Union Catalogue) lists a dozen copies of each title in Italian libraries.  OCLC adds copies of the the first work at Columbia, Library of Congress, Chicago and Wisconsin.  The second work is cited at Chicago only. .
