[xxiii]; 293pp. Strong and handsome, very light wear to the cloth, a little light scuffing to corners and some mild bumping to spine ends; internally clean and fresh, bookplate to front pastedown, lengthy inscription to front flyleaf, pencil marginalia throughout, and with a Norton review slip laid in at the rear; in a clean, strong example of the dustjacket with a little light creasing to extremities. A very good copy.
From the library of Nathaniel Tarn, noted poet, translator, and reviewer, with his bookplate and extensive pencil annotations, presumably in the service of his job as a reviewer. The inscription to the front flyleaf is from the publishing editor of other titles in this James Laughlin related series from Norton; Lee Bartlett:
"For Nathaniel, a little gossip & a little history caught between two lovers before (as Anne W. fears) the old U.S. tumbles into dust...Lee Aug 16 1989.
