How the Other Half Lives: Studies Among the Tenements of New York

By Jacob A. Riis
New York: Charles Scribners Sons, 1890. Cloth. Very Good. A solid copy of the 1890 1st edition, in its variant gray cloth binding, with blue titling and decorative blue bordering. Tight and VG, with bumping to the tips and light spotting along the panels. One signature loose (pgs. 195-208) but still holding. Thick octavo, dozens of evocative illustrations complementing Riis's timeless text, "chiefly from photographs taken by the author". Beyond dispute one of the great records of late 19th century poverty in New York and a landmark document of economic inequality.
