By Cobb, Humphrey
New York: The Viking Press. Very Good+. 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. (lacking the original dust jacket, but encased in a professionally-made facsimile reproduction of same; see 2nd image posted with this listing) [spine moderately turned, otherwise a good sound copy with minimal shelfwear, slight fading/rubbing to spine cloth]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the blank leaf preceding the half-title page: "For Carey Wilson / with kindest regards / from Humphrey Cobb." One of the most famous of all anti-war novels (and Cobb's only published book), made forever more famous as the basis for Stanley Kubrick's 1957 film adaptation. Wilson was a longtime M-G-M writer/producer, whose credits included GABRIEL OVER THE WHITE HOUSE (1933), MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (1935), and (as producer) THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (1946). NOTE again that this book bears a FACSIMILE dust jacket, to serve the dual purpose of protecting the book from further wear and enhancing its appearance on the shelf; its presence has not been factored in to our pricing.
