(lacking the original dust jacket, but encased in a professionally-made facsimile reproduction of same; see 2nd image posted with this listing) [quite a nice-looking copy, in illustrated paper-covered boards, lightly rubbed, with some shelfwear to the lower edges but otherwise a good solid copy, some age-toning to edges of text block and to the printed spine label; bookplate of veteran MGM writer/producer Carey Wilson on front pastedown, vintage bookseller's label (Unity Pegues, Hollywood) on rear pastedown]. Dos Passos's fourth published novel, his breakthrough commercial success and one of his most important works; it's a series of overlapping stories backgrounded against the development of New York City from the 1870s to the 1920s. (The stated printing date of this 5th printing is February 1926, which agrees with the Harper A-B printing code; the first printing was in October 1925.) NOTE again that this book bears a FACSIMILE dust jacket, to serve the dual purpose of protecting the book from further wear and enhancing its appearance on the shelf; its presence has not been factored in to our pricing. .
