London: Souvenir Press Ltd. Near Fine in Very Good+ dj. 1971 (c.1970). 1st U.K. edition. Hardcover. [minimal shelfwear to book; the jacket shows a little wear at the extremities]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the title page -- an association copy, as the inscription is to the producer of the 1972 film SKYJACKED, starring Charlton Heston and Yvette Mimieux, which was based on this novel. The inscription reads: "for Walter [Seltzer] with / best wishes - this / is the / British / edition -- / Best, / David Harper (Ed Corley" (Above the inscription is written, possibly in a different hand, "On Location - 1972.") The film, directed by John Guillermin, was the first major motion picture to center around the hijacking of a passenger airliner, and was an early entry in the disaster-movie genre that flourished during the 1970s. I don't know exactly what to make of the parenthetical "Ed Corley" that the author appended to his signature; it suggests to me (especially taking into consideration the "On Location" notation) that he might have been given a small cameo role in the movie -- but no such character is listed anywhere that I can find (even among the uncredited roles), so that's pure speculation on my part. Harper, whose first novel this was, had (per the jacket blurb) been a U.S. Air Force pilot. Signed by Author .
