THE WEB AND THE ROCK

  • SIGNED Wraps
  • New York: Harper & Brothers, 1939
By WOLFE, Thomas
New York: Harper & Brothers, 1939. First Edition. Wraps. Some wrinkling. Very Good. One of a small number of 8-1/2" x 11" galleys privately printed for the trade prior to publication, consisting of 66 loose sheets printed on one side only including the copyright page, author's note, table of contents, and excerpts from the novel, the first published after Wolfe's untimely death the year before. The excerpts include brief printed descriptions of the contents of the excerpted chapters. With a letter from the publisher to a bookseller explaining why no review copies were available and stating "only a limited number of these galleys have been made." The letter refers to "bound galleys," but these are loose sheets and do not include a title page. We have seen this galley in bound and unbound formats, with and without a title page. Uncommon.
