The second of two plays written by popular British-American actress and memoirist Fanny Kemble (1809-1893), known for her abolitionist Journal of A Residence on A Georgian Plantation. Highly uncommon in the trade: we can trace no copies in the auction record since 1963. NCBEL III 530.

With the bookplate of noted book collector Hiram Scofield, a Union Army officer who commanded the 8th Regiment Infantry (African Descent) during the Civil War. After the war, he worked as a lawyer in Iowa, where he assembled a very large private library.
