By Dickens, Charles
New York: Grosset & Dunlap. Very Good in Fair dj. [1935]. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. [a good sound copy, slight bumping and minor fraying at lower tips, minor soiling and rubbing to red cloth, internally very clean; the jacket is a bit the worse for wear, with about an inch paper loss at both ends of spine, several other small tears and chips, and some old internal tape repairs]. (Universal Library) Series (B&W film stills) Rather a cheap-ass sort of "photoplay edition," with a dust jacket illustration that makes reference to "A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Production" and depicts most of the major characters as they appeared in that 1935 film (most prominently W.C. Fields as Mr. Micawber) but which doesn't incorporate any other features related to the movie -- except that (rather oddly) the black-and-white drawings that intermittently illustrate the text were obviously based on stills from the film. (There was a better-quality tie-in published at about the same time, by Dodd, Mead & Co., which did it up more properly, using sixteen stills from the film to illustrate the text and employing a photographic dust jacket. It's a higher-quality production in every respect, but also a good deal scarcer than the present volume.) ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this moderately heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.
