By Blum, Daniel
New York: Greenberg: Publisher. Near Fine in Very Good dj. (c.1955). (Volume VI). Hardcover. [nice clean book with only minor shelfwear, one-time owner's signature on front endpaper (see Notes); the jacket shows some wear at edges and extremities, minor paper loss at top of spine, a bit of soiling to the rear panel (B&W photographs) Provides cast/production credits for all films released in the U.S. during 1954. The "Promising Personalities" of the year are, for a change, a pretty rich bunch, including Eva Marie Saint, James Dean, Kim Novak, and Jack Lemmon (offset somewhat, as usual, by those whose promise didn't take them very far, e.g. May Wynn and Doe Avedon). This year's "Portrait Dolls of Famous Film Folk" (thankfully confined to a single page) gives us a group shot of creepy doll versions of Charles Laughton, Colleen Moore, Charles Boyer, Anita Stewart, and Jackie Coogan. The volume is dedicated to Pola Negri; the obituaries section -- mercifully short this time around -- include Lionel Barrymore, Sydney Greenstreet, and Eugene Pallette. This copy is from the collection of screenwriter Richard Collins, and bears his signature on the front endpaper. .
