By Hansen, Joseph
New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. (c.1979). First Edition. Hardcover. [minor smudging to bottom of text block, slight bumping to lower extremities; the jacket shows just a bit of wear at the corners, slight fading along right edge of rear panel]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the half-title page: "2 Mar 82 / For Grayson -- / with good / wishes / Joseph Hansen." Dave Brandstetter, investigating the murder of a born-again Christian who has (apparently) been killed in retribution by the owner of a pornographic bookstore whose shop had been trashed, finds himself moving through a Hollywood underground teeming with -- who knew? -- drugs, prostitution, and other unsavory diversions. Fifth in the Brandstetter series, about the tough-as-nails insurance investigator who just happens to be gay. Too bad nobody told the jacket designers (who appear to have used a black-and-white shot of the old 42nd St.) that the book is set in L.A., not New York. This was a review copy, and has the original publisher's notification card laid in. Signed by Author .
