By BINET, Alfred
Paris: C. Reinwald, 1903. FIRST EDITION. An amazing copy in the original printed wrappers, uncut, with the author’s presentation inscription on the half-title to the French artist Louis Prat. First edition. “The present work is one of his valuable studies on children's intelligence which played a role in his development of an intelligence test. Binet investigated the mental characteristics of his two daughters by analyzing their solutions to simple problems. He described his observations and experiments which ultimately led him to conclude that it was not possible to use tests of sensory-motor abilities to measure intelligence. The work was an excellent systematic study of the differences between two individuals” (Heirs).

Binet (1857-1911), a French psychologist, created the first practical intelligence test for children. It was based on studies and discussions revolving around children with learning disabilities, and whether they should be educated in separate schools or with all other non-disabled children.

DSB II 132; Heirs of Hippocrates 2190.
