By (Pound, Ezra). Hugh Kenner, Eva Hesse (senior editors)
Augusta, ME: University of Maine, 1972. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Near Fine. Continuous run (46 issues) of Paideuma from Vol 1. No. 1 (Spring and Summer 1972) through Vol. 19 Nos. 1 &2 (Spring & Fall 1990). The subtitle of the original journal, "A Journal Devoted to Ezra Pound Scholarship" was changed in 2002 to "Modern and Contemporary Poetry and Poetics" when the journal broadened its focus. As described on the website of the University of Maine, which publishes the journal, Paideuma is "an annual peer-reviewed scholarly journal with a focus on modern and contemporary poetry and poetics. Issues often include a symposium on a particular theme, a dossier of archival materials, and essays on poetics". Hugh Kenner and Eva Hesse were founding senior editors. At its start-up Donald Gallup, Pound bibliographer, was among its editors and prolific author Guy Davenport one of the editorial assistants, two years before his first book was published . Laid-in to the first issue is the prospectus and a letter to "editors and friends" appealing for help in generating subscriptions with a signed notation from the managing editor. Virtually all copies appear to be unread. There is minor wear to the spines of the first five issues.
