An advance copy — complete with a promotional photograph of Thompson throwing a football — of this expansive collection of Thompson's essays and articles from 1959 to the late 1970s which brilliantly document the evolution of his unique writing style, in particular the development of his Gonzo brand of journalism. Divided into four sections, it includes excerpts from both of his Fear and Loathing books (Las Vegas and Campaign Trail '72), as well as pieces created for Rolling Stone, the New York Times, and the National Observer, among many others. From the personal collection of James Silberman, who first edited Thompson at Random House, and then later published him at Summit Books, his own imprint at Simon & Schuster.
