Sacred Hymns and Spiritual Songs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Liverpool & London: Albert Carrington, 42, Islington & L. D. Saints' Book Depot, 20, Bishop's Grove, 1877. Sixteenth Edition. Leather Bound. Very Good. [5]-432 pp. 12 cm. Full black striated leather with blind ruled borderlines to boards and backstrip. Title stamped on backstrip ("L.D.S. HYMNS"). Any gilt to the stamping has faded. The foot of the backstrip has been professionally repaired, glued, and toned. Edges and corners of the boards are rubbed, bumped, with underlying boards occasionally peeking through. Binding is solid and tight throughout, but the endsheets are beginning to crack at the hinge. Internally, a touch of age toning, soiling, and a few sporadic short notes in pencil. Page edges occasionally bumped or worn. Collated, complete. Previous owner's name ("J. T. Clements") is neatly written in pencil on the rear free endpaper and on the rear flyleaf. The LDS sacramental prayers are both written in a neat cursive hand in black ink to the yellow coated endsheets (the bread/body prayer at the front, and the wine/water/blood prayer at the rear).

"Preface to the Sixteenth Edition. — This Edition is uniform with the Fifteenth, except a revision, by its author, of Hymn 340, page 408; and this Preface in lieu of the one in like place in the last edition. Albert Carrington. 42, Islington, Liverpool, March 1877." This 1877 Liverpool edition of the LDS Hymns contains 344 hymns (p. [5]-414). It also includes an index to first lines (p. 415-427), and an index to subjects (p. 428-432). Flake/Draper 1774.
