By D.H. Lawrence
London: Martin Secker, 1923. Very Good/Very Good. London: Martin Secker, [1923]. First U.K. Edition. Octavo; publisher's cloth-backed boards, black topstain, in mint green printed dust jacket; 207pp. Dust jacket rather dust-soiled and unevenly faded with extensive shallow chips and closed tears occasionally touching text without loss of meaning; overall Very Good, internally clean and entirely unopened. Contemporary New York bookseller ticket to rear pastedown.

"In a way, 'Birds, Beasts and Flowers' forms a literary bridge between Europe and America; most of the poems were written in Sicily, but some of the later ones were written in Taos, New Mexico" (Roberts). The collection was first published by Thomas Seltzer in the United States, with the Tortoise poems issued in a separate volume. This first English edition appeared in a print run of 1000 copies with the Tortoise poems included.
