[New York: 1807] Quarto, partially printed circular letter, completed in manuscript, one page, plus integral address leaf, formerly folded, in very good, clean and legible condition.
This French speaking masonic lodge was evidently formed by refugees from San Domingo about 1805 or 1806. West Indian Masonry came to America via these refugees who founded lodges in Louisiana, Philadelphia, New York and elsewhere beginning in the 1790's and continuing in the first decade of the 19th century. West Indian Masonry was apparently popular amongst seamen, especially sea captains, who helped in its spread along the east coast.
