The MLB's 50th anniversary All-Star game took place on July 6th, 1983, at Comiskey Park, exactly 50 years to the day after the first ever All-Star game was played at the same stadium. The day before, on July 5th, the Old Timers All-Star game took place, with a wealth of legendary talent including players like Joe DiMaggio, Al Kaline, Hank Greenberg, and Bob Feller representing the American League side, and Carl Hubbell, Warren Spahn, Willie Mays, and Stan Musial representing the National League. Bob Feller came into the league when he was just 17 years old. Cy Slapnicka, the scout who discovered him, said, "I didn't know then that he was smart and had the heart of a lion, but I knew that I was looking at an arm the likes of which you see only once in a lifetime." The prodigy played all eighteen of his major league seasons with the Cleveland Indians, during which time he garnered eight All-Star selections and won the unofficial Triple Crown in 1940 by leading the league in wins, ERA, and strikeouts. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962. Legendary pitcher Carl Hubbell spent his entire career with the Giants, winning NL MVP honors twice (1933, 1936) and earning nine All-Star selections. His most memorable moment in the league came when he struck out five all-time great hitters - Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Joe Cronin - in a row in the 1934 All-Star Game. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1947. Bill Dickey was an 11x All-Star and 7x World Series Champion, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1954. He was an important mentor to other members of the Yankees, with Yogi Berra saying, "I owe everything I did in baseball to Bill Dickey. He was a great man." Charlie Gehringer was a 6x All-Star, AL MVP (1937), finalist for the 1999 Major League Baseball All-Century Team, and 1946 Hall of Fame inductee. . Signed. First Edition. Scorecard. Near Fine.
