Providence, [Rhode Island]: Weeden and Peek; Crosby & Nichols (Boston), 1848 First edition. Though OCLC lists 28 copies worldwide (all within the United States), this is very scarce in commerce. Publisher's dark brown blindstamped cloth with gilt title on spine. . Twelvemo. Title page browned (perhaps from a previously laid-in insert). Light foxing otherwise. Mild shelf wear to spine. Signature of previous owner in pencil on frontmatter. A good or better copy. An ambitious story of virtue and vice set just after the War of 1812. The author writes: "Most of the persons mentioned in the work, [sic] are regularly descended from one our Pilgrim Fathers. The writer was acquainted with several aged descendants of this Puritan, and from their lips received most of the account given — the remainder occurred under her own observation."
