By Robinson, Jane. Introduction by Leonard Spigelgass. Epilogue by Edward G. Robinson
New York: Harper & Row, 1971. First Edition. CLoth. Fine/Fine. Signed in ink by both film legend Edward G. Robinson and his wife and primary author, Jane Robinson. Edward G., who rocketed to fame playing tough guys and thugs (Little Caesar) but who was the most versatile of actors, playing a rich variety of characters in also numerous genres in movies, and whose voice clearly reflected his years of training in live theatre, was one of the most ardent and shrewd art collectors in Hollywood, amassing a major collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist paintings. Robinson was also quite an accomplished painter himself, as shown in a few of his paintings presented at the end of the book, and one can not but think the art collecting and active art making cross-fertilized one another. 4to. 26 by 21 cm. x, [2], 117 pp. Many of the paintings in the collection are shown in full color plates, on glossy paper. In the collection were Monet, Sisley, Morisot, Sickert, Rouault, Bonnard, Dufy, Picasso, Pisarro, Renoir, Soutine, Redon, etc. And we would add, not lesser works by these artists. There are several pages of Robinson's sculpture -- these are shown in b/w photos, a few to the page. Both the DJ and book proper show the lightest of wear.
