"In a future world racked by violence and environmental catastrophes, George Orr wakes up one day to discover that his dreams have the ability to alter reality. He seeks help from Dr. William Haber, a psychiatrist who immediately grasps the power George wields. Soon George must preserve reality itself as Dr. Haber becomes adept at manipulating George’s dreams for his own purposes. The Lathe of Heaven is an eerily prescient novel...that masterfully addresses the dangers of power and humanity’s self-destructiveness, questioning the nature of reality itself" (Le Guin website).

Undisputably one of the most important science fiction and fantasy authors writing in English, Ursula K. Le Guin (1929 - 2018) authored many classics of the genre, including The Left Hand of Darkness (1969), a groundbreaking work of feminist speculative fiction that won both the Hugo and Nebula awards; and the Earthsea series (1968 - 2001), widely beloved by young readers and adults alike. Le Guin was awarded numerous Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards during her sixty-year career, and was the second woman honored as a Grand Master by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. She was also named a living legend by the Library of Congress in 2001 and was awarded a National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 2014. Her works are treasured as much for their vibrant worlds (the haunting, labyrinthine Tombs of Atuan and the frozen landscapes of Gethen come to mind) as their astute social commentary and insights on gender, spirituality, power, and self-discovery. Fine in Fine dust jacket.
