Fair. 199pp. Quarto [24 cm] Black cloth over boards with an illustrated paper label mounted to the front board. Much of the text block has pulled away from the spine. Prior owner's name along with the notation "Milton Oregon" twice on the front endpaper. Illustrations at p. 28 and p. 192 partially detached. Additionally, the illustration at p. 192 has a 5" closed tear. Complete. As is. With eight illustrations by Maxfield Parrish. Before the age of 30, Maxfield Parrish had worked as an illustrator and poster designer for Harper's Weekly, Scribner's Magazine, Ladies' Home Journal and the National Weekly. Parrish took full advantage of the new technologies in color reproduction and established himself as the master of fantasy and romance. He quickly became one of the best designers in what has been referred to as the "golden age of illustration.
