Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, 1962. Very Good/Very Good-. Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, 1962. First Edition Stated. Slim octavo; publisher's boards in pictorial dust jacket by Robert Dash retaining original price ($2.95); 95pp. Dust jacket quite toned and rubbed with two-inch closed tear at top edge of upper panel not quite touching text, uniformly dust-soiled, corners bumped; Good to Very Good overall.
Ownership signature of the late American poet and teacher Kathleen Fraser Marshall (1935-2019) with her extensive pencil marginalia throughout. Fraser Marshall was impressed by this collection, her notes praising Guest for her evocative phrasing and comparing the poem "The Brown Studio" (p. 77) to Ashbery. In response to the second stanza of the poem "Belgravia" (p. 49), Fraser has written, "a nice stretching when one thought discovers a new one, related but only at one end." The two poets were interviewed together in 2004. A lovely association copy.
