Palliser's New Cottage Homes and Details

  • 1/4 leather
  • New York: Palliser, Palliser & Co, 1887
By George and Charles Palliser
New York: Palliser, Palliser & Co, 1887. 1/4 leather. Very Good +. A handsome copy of the 1887 1st edition, bound in a later 1/4 calf over slate-gray boards. Solid and easily VG+, with only very minor soiling at the panels. Folio, new endsheets and pastedowns, frontispiece, (VI) preliminary pgs., 65 numbered lithographic plates, each with an accompanying leaf of text. 13 unnumbered pgs. of architectural details, 7 pgs. of specifications, 21 pgs. at the rear of wonderful advertisements (mostly steel engravings). (Hitchcock, 919). Very appealing pattern book, presented mainly in an American adaptation of the Queen Anne style. This is another in the enormously successful series of Palliser pattern books, intended as a follow-up to their 1877 "American Cottage Homes". The Palliser Brothers were based in New York and specialized in domestic architecture. They were well-known exponents of the "Stick Style" and their meticulously illustrated books showcase their techniques in great detail.
