Andachtsubungen eines wahren Christen
- Munchen [Munich]: Joh. Bapt. Oettl, 1805
Munchen [Munich]: Joh. Bapt. Oettl, 1805. Very Good. München: Joh. Bapt. Oettl, 1805. 12mo (15cm); full contemporary straight-grained crimson goat elaborately gilt-tooled, enhanced with rather oversized steel clasp, green gilt spine onlay, all edges gilt with stippled designs along fore-edges, pink and gilt decorative endpapers; 383,[25]pp.; steel-engraved frontispiece and twenty-three plates including fourteen of the stations of the cross bound towards the end of the volume (text and plates collated complete), text printed entirely in blackletter. Leather a bit dried and rubbed along margins, clasp tarnished, front hinge starting, else a Very Good, attractive example.
Oft-reprinted compilation of devotional literature--the first ten plates quite faint from having been repeatedly run through the press, though the impression of the fourteen plates representing the stations of the cross are much darker. This copy a happy blend of classical and Bohemian design, the enormous clasp in the shape of a woven basket filled with fruits and flowers nearly obscuring the French-style gilt tooling on the crimson goat binding. The endpapers, a geometric design on pink paper, are also quite striking.
