Good. 464pp. Vigesimo-quarto [12 cm] Dark red cloth over boards with ornamental blind stamping to the boards. "L.D.S. Hymns" stamped in gilt on the spine. Floral endpapers. Extremities moderately rubbed. Cloth at spine ends a bit chipped. Large loss to the paper of the front pastedown. Contemporary owner's name and brief inscription on the front flyleaf. Small loss to the bottom fore-edge corner of this page as well. Tiny open tear to p. 417/418, obscuring a couple of letters. The 20th edition of the LDS hymnal, published in Salt Lake City. 369 hymns contained in this edition. Flake #1781. Flake states that there are no Salt Lake City seventeenth and eighteenth editions.

"No book published by or for the Latter-day Saints has run through so many editions or been sold so extensively as the Hymn Book, of which this is the twentieth edition. The demand for it continues unabated, and since the publication of the Latter-day Saints' Psalmody, which contains music for every hymn in this book, a new interest has been added to it and its usefulness enhanced. In this edition will be found a metrical index which the book as previously published in America, has not contained. This feature will be especially valuable to choirs. A few hymns have been added to the end of the volume. That these additions may prove acceptable to the public, and that the book may continue its cheering and consoling mission indefinitely, is the desire of THE PUBLISHERS.
