Niagra Falls, NY: Spirella Company, Inc, 1938. First Edition. Staplebound Wraps. Very Good+ in Wraps. First Edition. Staplebound Wraps. Corsetry magazine operated by women. Spirella offered made-to-measure corsets, often fitted by trained female saleswomen, known as corsetiers who would visit clients at home. This was a very customer centered approach, progressive in that, women clients felt more comfortable with women sales people. Spirella encouraged the company's female employees to earn commission based on sales. The topics in the sales magazine articles included articles on corsets, brassieres, sales tactics, fashion tips, and local advertising. The slogans in the magazine reflected the pro-women worker philosophy of "sales mean jobs" and "The time is past when women can afford to look upon any kind of work as being less dignified than another." The company promoted individual and team entrepeneurship for women workers with a customer driven sales force with incentives, much like the in-home party type selling models of Avon and Tupperware. The company 'factory' offered a wide array of employee amenities including "baths, showers, gymnastics classes, a library, free eye tests and bicycle repairs." The company expanded representation on Europe and had large sale force around the country with a wide customer base. An interesting example of fashion advertising, women in the labor force, and World War I trade and manufactering labor advertising. No holdings in OCLC of the selected issues. Light toning and shelf/edgewear, else bright and unmarred. 8vo. Pamphlets. Printed and visual wrappers. var. pg. Illus. (b/w). 17 issues. Includes three price lists and laid in supplemental customer testimony.
