Bound in black cloth; gilt stamped lettering on each spine and subtle gilt ornamentation on the covers. Spine of volume II slightly rolled. Spine ends and corners gently bumped. Illustrated bookplate affixed to each pastedown, and small ownership mark on each front free endpaper. In the original slipcase, with a paper title label. Corners and opening of the slipcase scuffed, occasionally exposing underlying boards. Paper label is a bit soiled. The Cary F. Baynes translation of the I Ching had a significant impact on 1960s counterculture, influencing numerous authors, musicians and other public figures. The book's text and commentary even directly inspired songs by Joni Mitchell, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles, among others.
