Brief biography and memorial tribute to Dix, quoting extensively from letters written to her contemporaries. Caroline A. Kennard (1827-1907) was a pioneering American woman scientist and activist for women's rights, perhaps best remembered today for her challenging exchanges of correspondence with Charles Darwin, whom she directly accused of diminishing the importance of domestic work and underestimating women's intellectual powers. Uncommon; no others seen in commerce, 7 copies in North America, nearly all in Massachusetts (per OCLC, October 2025).
