John White (1677-1760) was pastor of the First Church of Gloucester, Massachusetts, and brother-in-law of Cotton Mather. In this work, John White is against the rise of Arminianism in Massachusetts. Arminianism is against the tenets of strict Calvinism and is the theology for American Methodism. White laments against the trend of young ministers favoring Arminianism. The main part of the work is against the heresy of Arminianism itself. The concluding part is on ruling elders supporting their pastor in church discipline. Evans 3854. Howes W-359.
