"The prime ambition of the novelist should be to remain as impartial as God..." He goes on to criticize the book in detail, gives advice on methods of writing and suggests authors to read, though not to emulate. An important letter, embodying much of Wilson's critical philosophy, in kindly but stringent advice to a young author.
