Original Signed, Handpainted Watercolor of a Cat-in-Distress
- SIGNED Ephemera
Ephemera. Near Fine. Louis Wain. Wonderful original Louis Wain watercolor of another of his enigmatic, anthropomorphized cats. This one with claws extended, clutching at its stomach. On thick card stock, in lovely condition, with vivid light-brown and dark strokes and offsetting white splashes. SIGNED BY LOUIS WAIN AT THE FOOT OF THE WATERCOLOR. A diminutive but highly-accomplished portrait, measuring 4 1/2" tall x 3 1/2" wide. Louis Wain (1860-1939) was a British artist best known for his skillful and very unusual cat portraits, the man whose life (including the last 15 years in an insane asylum) was made into a 2021 film ("The Electrical Life of Louis Wain"), with Benedict Cumberbatch playing Louis Wain. Here proudly offering this original watercolor (circa 1890s) of this artist of endless fascination.
