Brooklyn, N.Y.: Published by Subscription, 1870. 1/2 leather. Very Good. The scarce 1867-1870 1st editions of this thorough history of mid to late 19th century Brooklyn, complete in 3 volumes. All 3 volumes, thick uniform octavos, solid and VG in their half red leather over marbled boards. 5 raised bands, gilt-tilting and ornaments along each spine. A degree of rubbing at the panels, mild wear and nicking along the hinges and at several of the compartments. Internally very clean, with no writing or markings to speak of. With several fold-out maps and over 110 illustrations (many of them still with their original tissue-guards) complementing Henry Stiles's text. And, finally, also includes a nice peice of laid-in Brooklyn ephemera, a 5 pg. article (from 1907) called "Chronology -- Here Is How Brooklyn Has Grown Since A.D. Matthews Opened Store at 93 Main Street, in 1837
