From the library of George Godfrey, with his name in pencil on the front wrap and title page. This is perhaps the George Godfrey (1845-1926) of Fielding, Box Elder County, Utah. The testimony of James Holt Haslam (1825-1913), the messenger who delivered a letter to Brigham Young from local militia leader and President of Cedar City, Utah Isaac C. Haight on September 10, 1857. Young sent a reply to Haight that day, however his message did not arrive in time, and the Mountain Meadows Massacre had already occurred.
