Good +. 623pp. Duodecimo [18 cm] Full black leather with ornamental gilt stamping to boards and backstrip and a gilt tooled spine. Raised bands. All edges gilt (with some rubbing, more so to the foot of the text block). Gilt dentelles. Gilt title on backstrip. Pale yellow endpapers. Text block skillfully re-sewn. Preliminary pages protrude just a little. Short gift inscription on the front pastedown. Top third of front free endpaper and front flyleaf torn out. Tape repairs to pp. xi/xii and pp. 1/2. Subtle darkened areas on pp. 78 and 79 and pp. 248 and 249. Thin and/or very small moisture stains in fore-edge margins of the terminal leaves, starting at p. 495. Rear endpaper with some light staining as well. Complete. Flake 617. The first European edition of the Book of Mormon was published in Liverpool, England in 1841, necessitated by a dramatic increase of converts. The publishing committee consisted of Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, and Parley P. Pratt. Later, the 1852 Book of Mormon edition published by Franklin D. Richards in Liverpool gained significance due to the fact that its stereotype plates were used for all of the Church's subsequent impressions before 1879. The Second Electrotype edition published in Liverpool by Albert Carrington in a lovely leather binding.
