Scarce 1890 1st (and almost certainly only) edition of this retelling of "legends, traditions and superstitions of Westchester" Co., New York. Crisp and VG in its dark-green cloth, with bright gilt-titling along the front panel and spine. Small, neat name ("Dr. Wm. L. Wells") written lightly at the front free endpaper and also at the title page. Half a dozen very narrow, small worm-holes burrowed through along the fore-edge (but showing almost no wear to any of the pages). Octavo, chapter headings include" "Mystery of a Pelham Farmhouse", "Bedford Courtship", "The Haunted Brook", "The Spirit Lady", "The Devil's Gardener", "The Wood Famine", "The Treasure Hunters", etc.
